Introducing Battle Intelligence

Monster battles are getting better!

Since the beta launch of Spellborne, players worldwide have engaged in over 13 million battles, primarily against wild monsters. These encounters were designed to be somewhat straightforward, providing valuable data for improving the game.

We're thrilled to introduce a significant enhancement to the battle system—Battle Intelligence.

Piñatas to Hit!

Initially, the AI for wild monsters in Spellborne was quite basic, mainly choosing random and defensive moves. This approach allowed us to gather a substantial dataset from all 13 million recorded battles, setting the stage for future AI enhancements in PvP leagues, Guardian Battles, and Guild Wars.

Time to Get Smarter

Battle Intelligence introduces several tiers of complexity for wild monsters and NPCs, increasing the challenge as players progress:

  • Basic: These enemies use random moves reflecting their breed's personality without any strategic consideration.
  • Intermediate: Enemies understand basic battle mechanics and select moves suitable for different conditions.
  • Expert: These foes have a comprehensive understanding of the battle system and can manage an inventory and switch monsters strategically.
  • Master: At this level, enemies possess complete knowledge of the player’s strategies, including their move pool, and can use their inventory and switch monsters strategically.

These varying levels of difficulty aim to enrich player encounters beyond typical battles.

PvP Leagues

PvP battles can often suffer from long wait times and uneven player distributions, particularly at higher skill levels. To address this, we've designed a league-based system:

  • Players are categorized into tiers. Each season, the top-ranking players advance to a higher league, while the lowest-ranking players move down a tier.
  • Rankings are based on an ELO score influenced by wins, losses, and activity—inactive players gradually lose points.

This system ensures active players climb the ranks, while those less active may need to regain their standings, fostering a competitive environment.

The PvP league system will go live in Season 1.5.

Guardian Battles

Guardians are pivotal in Spellborne, linking the story across different titles set in the world of Celestia. These battles are designed to adapt to each player's history, increasing in difficulty based on their performance in wild encounters and PvP, ensuring challenges are tailored to their skill level.

Guardian Battles will go live in Season 2.

Guild Wars

Guild Wars feature 2v2 battles where guilds nominate their top players. These battles emphasize teamwork and are high-stakes events that benefit both individual players and their guilds. Participation isn't mandatory for all guild members, allowing for strategic choices about who competes.

Guild Wars are an excellent opportunity for players to demonstrate their prowess in a team setting, enhancing both personal and guild reputations.

Guilds will go live in Season 1.5.
